A true musical legend has left us today. Ms Etta James died from complications from leukemia with her husband, Artis Mills, and her sons by her side, De Leon said. She was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010, and also suffered from dementia and hepatitis C. James died at a hospital in Riverside, California. She would have turned 74 Wednesday.

” This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around the world,” De Leon said. “She was a true original who could sing it all – her music defied category.”

We were super excited to finally see Miss Lauriana Mae perform her first headline show at SOB’s last thursday night. We were still unsure of what to expect from the new comer. I always believed that if a new artist can put on a great live performance it will prove if  they’ll be a contender in the game. WOW this recently signee to Atlantic Records, is one of 2012′s artists to watch! Lauriana was dressed in full vintage 1920s flapper gear and her energy was high that night. She has a star performers attitude, and a sexy swag that is truly memorizing.

Miss Mae performed records off her latest EP ‘Love Mae’ to a full house which included “Love,” “Money Mae,” and ” Like A Drum (Beat it).”  Lauriana’s music is in a lane of it’s own. Inspired by the likes of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Etta James, singer/songwriter, Mae blends soulful jazz vocals with contemporary pop, R&B and hip-hop all in one.  With her backing band “The Pains,” comprised of a band of friends that stood by her along the way.

Before Lauriana graced the stage. Two other great singers opened the show, R&B brotha Ronny “RO” James raved the crowd with his very own cover of Radiohead‘s “Creep” and finished his set with an original joint titled “Be Better.”  Lance Drummonds was up after and play the piano and performed a few of his original tunes mixed with some classic covers.

YES! YES! YES! Melanie Fiona is giving us music we can relate too. Check out her blues/soul driven joint “Wrong Side Of A Love Song” the guitar strumming from the starts remind me of Al Greens “Lay It Down” I believe her new album will top her first one 100 times over, she is now an established artist! ‘The MF Life‘ is scheduled to drop on May 8.

Newly crowned X-Factor winner Melanie Amaro appeared on BET’s 106 & Park yesterday evening to talk about what she has been up to since being the first winner on the Xfactor competition. Melanie talked to Terrance and Rocsi about some of the people she would love to work with which included Mariah Carey and Ne-Yo towards the end of the interview Melanie gave the audience a a capella version of Beyonce’s “Best Thing I Never Had”.  Melanie has signed with LA reid on Epic Records and her Pepsi commercial will air during next month’s Super Bowl.

Starz was born October 28, 1990 in Harlem, New York. Raised in the Bronx, he developed a love for music and dance through his parents. His father taught him his dance moves and his mom being a D.J. sparked his interest in the music scene. As far back as he can remember Starz has been dancing. He did not discover his vocal talents until his middle school years. Once he found this vocal gift he combined it with dance and began to develop them by performing in talent shows. In his early trials he received a lot of negative attention because people did not believe in his ability to sing. Defying his doubters Starz continued his journey eventually and gained some unparalleled media exposure.His career consisted mostly of backup vocals and dance for groups like “Marcy Place”.

Bianca Raquel is a singer, songwriter, producer, performer and musician. As the daughter of world-renowned musical director/arranger Ray Chew, it’s clear that the gift of music was passed down a generation. Growing up between two households with two different lifestyles and sets of rules between Upstate New York, NYC and New Jersey, Bianca found balance and consistency to be her biggest obstacles. The one constant variable in Bianca’s life has always been music. Practically growing up in the Apollo Theater, she dissected every rehearsal and performance; learning exactly what works onstage.

From a very young age, Bianca began writing songs instinctively. “One day my dad heard me singing and he was like ‘who’s song is that?’ When I told him I made it up in my head he was like ‘you should start writing them down.’” Soon, Bianca had tons of notebooks filled up with her songs. It quickly became apparent that Bianca’s gift was special because when writing songs, she automatically heard background and instrument arrangements along with the lyrics and melody. She recorded and produced her first song at the age of 9. “My dad took me into his studio and said ‘I want you to tell me how to play all the music you hear in your head and sing all the voices you hear.’”

At the age of 13, Bianca was the youngest student to attend the Grammy Foundation’s First Annual Grammy Camp. There, she was surrounded by 47 other talented students who inspired her to improve and nourish her talents. At 15, her father invested in her dreams and bought her a Roland Fantom. He told her to make it her business to learn her Fantom inside and out, using it as a way to take her production skills to the next level. He instilled in her a sense of work ethic and suggested that the more tools and skills she equipped herself with, the more her star would rise. So she practiced and found herself in her music.

Now a student at Berklee College of Music, where she continues to hone her skills, Bianca feels humbled and blessed by the opportunity.  “At Berklee, I have been awarded the tremendous gift of musical discipline and theory which was the missing piece to my puzzle.” True to her art and to herself, there is depth to Bianca’s music, with influences ranging from Stevie Wonder to Radiohead. “One thing I pride myself on is having the ability to never be boxed in or labeled as simply one thing or another. As an artist, I don’t have to choose a genre but simply juice every drop of creativity I possess and give the world something new.” Tackling reality in her music with wit, passion and sophisticated lyrics beyond her years, the brand and legacy of Bianca Raquel is born. With her EP “Hello, My Name is…” set to be released, the world is waiting to hear what she has to say.
